A typical Thai outdoor food market. Busy, noisy, smelly and all round pretty mental. But there are an endless amount of new spectacular foods to try. Of course if you are feeling brave there is always some of the usual weird bugs, intestines, frogs and all that funky stuff. Keeping it still adventurous (without being daft) there is also an incredible variety of fruits and vegetables. I still to this day, keep discovering new fruits and vegetables that I have not seen before.
Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear.
The story of why I started this blog came from a me a facing a fear that I have had for years. I was basically totally petrified of the idea of speaking on video but at the same time really wanted to start a putting video online so could I share some of my stories and tips and tricks on living the unconventional lifestyle, long term travel, online business and all that.
Camera Shyness
I really do not feel comfortable being on camera at all. I have never really been a huge fan of having my photograph taken. When someone pulls a camera out at a party, alot of people strike a pose meanwhile I am the one who dives for cover. I have made up every excuse imaginable on reasons why I should not do this video stuff, eg.I heard a theory from somewhere (cannot remember where) that had a concept where if you take a photo of someone you steal a tiny little part of there soul (scary stuff).
The day I faced that fear.
Whilst I was back home in the UK earier this year I made that jump and did it. I filmed that first video (must admit I took several attempts) and put it on youtube. My goal that I secretly set myself was to put out 5 videos. One every 1-2 weeks, surely if I can do this it will get easier with each video and I will have conquered my fear. Then I figured that i should have a website to feature all this stuff, and that is how MiltBlog.com came to be.
So I put my stuff out there and nobody ripped me apart or took the piss as I had feared. In fact, quite the opposite happened, I have recived some great messages and emails from all sorts of people who I never knew before who dig what I’m doing here.
As I predicted these videos got easier each time, and I got the 5th video and thought, “Let’s go mad, Aim for 10 !”
See all my videos below in one big fat playlist or click here
So right now I’m over 3months in and have passed the 10 videos mark and I would not say that I’m 100% comfortable on camera now, but I certainly not quivering with fear like before. And I feel great for it, it is true, there is benefit to facing our fears.
So Now What ?
But what am I gonna do now ?
New target of 50 Videos ?
What’s the future of this little blog ?
I am on the verge on turning it up and taking this project to the next level.
Do you think that I should continue with all this ?
So here we go, right here right now today I am making a commitment and taking on a challenge.
It is a very simple and beautiful yet challenging thing that I am about to take on.
Drum Roll…
As from now on, every Friday I will publish a photo.
You may think that ain’t that special or challenging, well read on my friend.
Welcome to The Friday Photo.
The reason I came to this is because I was thinking that I seem to always take pictures, and store them on my computer, but they never really ever get any further than that. I will some times post a whole load of them on facebook but then for months I don’t really put any pictures out. I love photography and in my Art college days was I was fully capable in a dark room, and deep into experimental abstract photography. Of course these days with digital photography it is so much easier. So I have no excuses on the technology front and I used to be a real budding photographer.
This idea of me doing a Friday Photo every week is something that I have been considering for a long time. It is a mini goal of mine, to share more pictures and on this regular basis, and that is the challenge here.
Can I stick to it ? A pictureevery Friday ?
Before I go deep into my whole master-plan behind this mini project, let me just shut up and do it.
So here it is, the very first (number 001) Friday Photo….

Frog in the Bathroom
This little chap I noticed had moved into my bathroom, he actually stayed from about 3 days before I had to help him find his way back outside. He had maybe gotten lost or was on the run from some mafia frogs, or he was wanted to watch me in the shower. We will never know.
Some video from earlier this year of a couple of good friends of mine who whilst we were out having a few drinks one night, the house band ended up inviting these guys up on stage to jam. It was in this Cowboy style Bar just outside the River Kwai Hotel in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. One of those spontaneous nights that just naturally turned into a great party. The right place at the right time, rock on !
Welcome to Erawan Waterfalls in the north of Kanchanaburi province, Thailand. This seven tiered waterfall is especially awesome to visit at this time of year, due to being in the middle of Thailand’s rainy season. Although it only rains for an hour or two each evening, that is enough to make the waterfalls more powerful and impressive.
With Mountains, jungle surroundings it is quite a good mini adventure.
Anyway, check out this funky video below of my journey through the seven steps of this waterfall to the top.
